He set career-highs in targets (111), receptions (88) and receiving yards (884) and tied his career-best in receiving touchdowns (eight). That season earned Smith his first Pro Bowl honor. Smith started his career inTennesseeafter the Titans took him in the third round, No. 100 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons there (2017-20) before a two-year stint inNew England. The Patriots traded him to theAtlanta Falconsahead of the 2023 season. Atlanta released him last offseason and he signed his current two-year deal with the Dolphins weeks later. A trade to theSteelerswould reunite the veteran tight end with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, with whom he previously worked in Tennessee (2017-2020) and Atlanta (2023). Smith will be entering his age-30 season in 2025. Pittsburgh is armed with an extra third- and fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft thanks to the Pickens deal. Smith would be joining a crowded tight end room in Pittsburgh should a deal go through. Here's who is currently on the Steelers' roster as offseason training activities (OTAs) begin: Pat Freiermuth Darnell Washington Donald Parham Jr. JJ Galbreath Connor Heyward DJ Thomas-Jones Freiermuth led the Steelers in receptions (65) and receiving touchdowns (seven) in 2024. Washington, a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, had a career-best 19 receptions for 200 yards and one touchdown in 2024. Pittsburgh signed Parham Jr. this offseason after a four-year stint with the Chargers. He posted career bests in receptions (27), receiving yards (285) and receiving touchdowns (four) last season. Galbreath is an undrafted rookie free agent out of South Dakota. Both Heyward and Thomas-Jones are listed as tight ends and fullbacks on the Steelers' roster. Smith's departure would leave a big hole in the receiving corps. He led the team in receptions in 2024 despite starting just six games. Here's how the rest of the position looks behind Smith: Pharaoh Brown Julian Hill Tanner Conner Hayden Rucci Jalin Conyers Miami signed the journeyman Brown in free agency following his 2024 campaign in Seattle. He tallied just eight catches for 65 yards in 15 games. Hill was the primary starter at tight end for the Dolphins last season with 11 starts in 17 games. He had a career-best 12 catches for 100 yards in that action. Conner appeared in eight games for the Dolphins last season, primarily on special teams. He had three catches for 16 yards and a touchdown as well as three tackles. Rucci and Conyers are undrafted free agents from the 2024 and 2025 NFL Drafts, respectively.
